BEHIND THE MUSIC
A Creative Presence
“A force to be reckoned with…” – Catholine Butler, The Celtic Connection
“Vancouver’s Celtic troubadour is in fine growl throughout the mostly original tracks which include a couple of great odes to his Vancity home.” – Cal Koat, World Beat Canada
“… a name we will be hearing again.” – John Murphy, Shite ‘N Onions (USA)
“ I Confess delivers a dash of Dublin and a taste of Texas… Paddle Your Own Canoe reels like Dublin’s Temple Bar on a Saturday night… Chessell fares just as well with his originals.” – Mike Usinger, The Georgia Straight
These are just some of the things said about Pat Chessell and his new album. The Vancouver, Canada based singer and guitar player began his career as a teenager as a guest with Belfast singer Danny Burns of the legendary Irish group, The Wolfhound. Now in his early-thirties, Chessell has become known as one of the most exciting Celtic acts in Western Canada, playing the region’s top festivals, nightclubs, theatres, and special events. The singer and guitar player performs more than 200 shows a year, either solo or with The Pat Chessell Band. Chessell’s latest release – I Confess – was recorded in January 2018 at the Warehouse Studio, the legendary recording venue owned by Canadian rocker Bryan Adams. Consisting of 5 originals and 2 traditional songs, he is joined by an impressive cast of musicians on the EP, including roots virtuoso Steve Dawson, Geoffrey Kelly (Spirit of the West), Gerry O’Connor (Irish Rovers), Bruce Coughlan (Tiller’s Folly), Damaris Woods (Young Wolfe Tones), and many more.
Pat Chessell has played all across Canada, throughout Upstate New York, and in his ancestral homeland of Ireland. He was a feature act in the Irish Pavilion at the 2010 Winter Olympics and has opened for such acts as Jim Byrnes, Delhi 2 Dublin, Derek Warfield and the Young Wolfe Tones, The Town Pants, and more. Chessell will spend the remainder of 2018 performing around British Columbia and is already starting pre-production on his next recording project.
